Frequently asked questions.

Practical answers about equipment compatibility, cutting performance, field operation, and maintenance.

01

How many cuts can I expect per blade?

About 60 full cuts with careful operation and proper blade handling.

02

What equipment can operate RailSaw Max?

It is compatible with most standard excavators with a quick-attach system and sufficient hydraulic capacity. It can also be fitted to a boom truck or BTMF truck.

03

What is required to run the saw?

The saw needs a minimum flow of 10 GPM and two hydraulic circuits. Confirm the final setup requirements with your dealer.

04

How long does one rail cut take?

A clean, square rail cut takes approximately three minutes under typical conditions. Cut-and-break operations can take about 30 seconds.

05

Does the saw produce sparks?

The low-RPM cutting system produces little to no sparks compared with conventional high-speed methods.

06

Can it operate in bad weather?

Yes. RailSaw Max is built for rugged railroad work and can operate in rain, snow, and mud.

07

What maintenance is required?

Maintenance is similar to other heavy-duty grapples and primarily includes regular inspection and occasional greasing.

08

What else can it cut?

It can cut ties, suitable-size pipe, and—in the right position—two rails at once.

09

Can it cut rail in track?

Yes. It can cut rail in track without requiring crews to shovel out the ballast.

10

Can it make a hot cut?

No. It is not designed to cut hot rail in track because the rail can pinch the blade, just as it can with a conventional saw.
